Triptych Karin Slaughter 9780385339469 Books

I have read all of Karin Slaughter's books and I find it hard to believe that she wrote this book. The others were excellent and were hard to put down. But this book was hard to believe and the storyline did not make much sense. But, I look forward to reading any new books that come out soon. Just did not think it was one of her best.

Triptych Karin Slaughter 9780385339469 Books Reviews

I was reading along, wondering when the book was going to get interesting, thinking about tossing in the towel when something happened around p. 67 that made my jaw drop. The book then shifted gears and went off in a completely different (and more welcome) direction. So I can recommend it for that, but I don't know why authors feel the need to add weird perversions to their serial killers. That and the usual torture porn where one of the main characters gets sliced and diced that so many authors feel compelled to put in just turns me off. Some good writing here, fairly interesting story and characters, but I doubt I'll buy any more books by this author.
I am currently reading the fifth in the Will Trent series, but am coming back to the start to endorse this series in general. Karin Slaughter does a fabulous job of developing characters over time. As you make your way through this series, you will come to know better and better the individuals who emerge as the principals.

Ms. Slaughter also does a fabulous job of effectively weaving in and addressing many contemporary topics police brutality and corruption, teen pregnancy, potentially career threatening conditions (e.g., dyslexia and diabetes,) wealth and entitlement, gender politics, etc.

Finally, the novels are each page turners. Every day as I read more, I have a difficult time putting the books down, wanting to go just one.more.chapter. I highly recommend this series.
Triptych was so good! It had a great twist early on. One I did not see it coming.

The novel starts with the murder and rape of Aleesha Monroe, a prostitute at Grady Homes, one of Atlanta's projects. Detective Michael Ormewood is assigned the case and Leo Donnelly is another cop helping him with the investigation until a newcomer is pushed to his side. Special Agent Will Trent with the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) is designated to help Michael. Michael doesn't care for Will very much but he's forced to play nice after there's a question of other rape victims being attacked by the same perpetrator.

“I’m part of a special division of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation set up to aid local law enforcement around the state in apprehending violent criminals. My role here is purely advisory.”

Besides Michael and Will, two other characters are quite important.

The first one is Angie Polaski. She is a vice detective who's good at her job but the complete opposite in regards to her personal life. During her undercover work, she meets John Shelley. A man who was in prison for twenty years and who has been recently released. John is trying to keep his nose clean from any wrongdoing. He doesn't want to go back to prison. He would rather die than go back in.

And this is where the story becomes quite interesting and I'm afraid I can't divulge more without giving spoilers.

I was hooked after the introduction of Special Agent Will Trent with the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation). He sure made an impact in this novel. Will is very smart. He does his job well but he has a few big vulnerabilities which only made his character even more interesting to me.

Will's damaged goods but so is Angie. Angie reminds me a little bit of Lena but I'm hoping I won't hate her as much as I hated Lena in the Grant series.

I was happy with the resolution of Triptych and I'm excited to learn more about Will in the next few books.

Cliffhanger No

4/5 Fangs
Will Trent is introduced in this series shortly into the book. But first readers are introduced to a different main character Michael Ormewood. This first perspective had me intrigued and kept me reading well into the night. The book was written from several character perspectives and gives the reader a chance to figure out the puzzle as the characters are. I enjoyed the different works colliding and seeing things from different angles.
Will Trent is a GBI agent is assigned to assist Michael on murder case that shows similarity to two brutal rape cases he's already working. The two begin working together, despite a conflict of personalities, and end up at several dead ends. Will and Michael both consult with a female undercover officer working vice and use clues she discovers to lead both of them on very different quests. Add in the convicted child rapist John Shelley and things get interesting fast.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to continue on in the series. This book would make a great movie! One of the better books I've read in a long time.
I have read all of Karin Slaughter's books and I find it hard to believe that she wrote this book. The others were excellent and were hard to put down. But this book was hard to believe and the storyline did not make much sense. But, I look forward to reading any new books that come out soon. Just did not think it was one of her best.
