I'm going to begin by saying that, while I rate this 3.5 stars I would still recommend the book if you enjoy a light read with entertaining characters and quirky dialog. I didn't spot any typos or grammatical issues and that's half the battle in e-books these days.I enjoyed the characters, the writing and the storyline of this fun and funny book, but there were a few flaws that left me disappointed at the end. Three very different women bond over a book club (which disappears almost as soon as the women become friends). Aimee's naivete is a little unbelievable but the character is likeable enough to overlook it. Kiki's story is also unbelievable - a stripper with a head for business and an apparently incredible nest egg and stock portfolio, begging the question why she's stripping at all, much less the full Monty. Again, though, the character is strong and funny and a great foil for Aimee. The third friend is less defined, and I wish we'd seen more of her and less of the two extra love interests. This book should have focused entirely on Aimee's story and left the other two men for sequels, just introducing them here.
Despite these flaws I would have rated it a strong 4+ stars, but the ending was rushed and lazy.
SPOILER ALERT
Okay, so Aimee is naive and didn't expect violence from her ex - though any rational person would have after he left her unconscious on the kitchen floor following their first encounter. Sure, she slipped and fell, but he left her there! Even so, two smart, strong women, a divorce lawyer who has seen men react violently in similar situations, and flippin' COP, all of whom witnessed the ex behaving badly, also thought the guy would just walk away?! That was just silly. Finally, my biggest issue of the whole book is another spoiler. Seriously, don't read any further if spoilers are a problem for you.

So the ex kidnaps Aimee, takes her to his condo, is tracked down by the friends, and overpowers them before the cops arrive to save the day. In the midst of this, a battered Aimee regains consciousness and gasps to one of the friends, "He raped me!" Then she wakes up in the hospital, her new lover tells her she's pregnant with his child, and the friends move forward with their bakery plans, no one mentioning the rape again. What the hell?!! Do not write a rape into a story if you aren't willing to spend the time to deal with the physical and emotional consequences. It was a completely unnecessary addition, and the cavalier inclusion in this otherwise silly book was an insult to survivors of sexual assault.

Desperate Measures Trilogy Book 1 Full Measure Volume 1 Kat Lee 9780985607173 Books Reviews
I'm a longtime EC fan, though I must admit I was uncertain when I read the synopsis whether this one was for me. I'm glad I went ahead anyway, because I thoroughly enjoyed the blossoming of each of the three women as they grew to believe in themselves. It's a lovely story of unlikely friends, who have always been strong, but didn't necessarily know what strength looked or felt like in action.
The romantic aspects were sweet. Wish we'd had more on all three couples instead of mostly focusing on Aimee and Joe, but overall another engaging, satisfying read from miss EC.
This book was off to a quick start and captured my interest immediately. I loved the four female characters, Aimee, the pliable, trusting klutzy housewife, Kiki, the glamorous, hard-edged, take-no-prisoners exotic dancer, Elizabeth, the controlled, practical, by-the-numbers accountant and Betty, the crusty senior with strong opinions and no filter on her mouth. This book was not without it's flaws. The love interests seemed a little contrived and rushed and the abusive ex-husband's final actions exceeded the character presentation to that point, it still was a really fun read even if a little predicable.
This was one fun read. The first novel I've read by Elle Casey - but it won't be the last. This lighthearted story is about three women, very different, who bond over books and surprisingly become best friends. They each leave their troubled past and find more than what they're looking for in each other. Just when the possibility of love looms on the horizon for the three, they have to deal with a crazed ex-husband who's hell bent on killing one of them. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a good, quick read with fun characters in quirky situations.

I just finished Desperate Measures by Elle Casey. I love all sorts of books; I also love coffee/tea shops, and I love reading about the relationships between friends and/or lovers. To find a book that combines all three, is like nirvana for me. And to have those subjects mixed with some witty dialogue, some kick-@&& characters, some suspenseful situations, and some women chasing after their dreams made the story even better! This book was awesome!
It is the story of three newfound friends who just click. There is a fourth member of their book club, although she is less involved in the story. She does have some great lines, however! Each of the three main characters are living or working in situations that aren't ideal for them, and all three get the inspiration they need from each other to make some life changes. As they make these changes, there is some fallout. They help each other through the different ramifications of this fallout.
The author does an excellent job of making the story believable. I was really touched by the emotions that Ms. Casey evokes in this story. Wow. This is one I will be recommending heartily!
Although a decent read, so many things were left without a conclusion. It sucks really because at the beginning of the book Elizabeth and Kiki complain about how they hate books that endings seem rushed..... and then this author does that same thing!!! She left us hanging on Kiki and Elizabeth. She rushed Joe and Aimee. How could they not warn Aimee that Jack flipped or better yet how could they think it wouldn't be a problem... this is a guy who has repeatedly shown during the little time they have known him that he has a tendency for violence.....
